ELSA at the InnoGrid2020+ Conference

The InnoGrid2020+ Conference is a yearly high-level EU conference focused on innovation in electricity networks. The conference is organised by the European Network of Transmission Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and the European Distribution System Operators for Smart Grids (EDSO) and targets DSOs, TSOs, regulators, researchers, policy makers, smart grid component manufacturers, etc.

In 2016, the conference dealt with innovation in electric grids to match the paradigm change of generation moving to the distribution grid and being more distributed. One of the innovations addressed at the conference were storage systems in electric grids. Ludwig Karg and Dr. Michael Stöhr (B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH) attended the conference to represent the ELSA project.

The ELSA project was also part of the larger project poster presentation. Contacts were established with different participants from all groups of attendees.

The event confirmed the perception that battery storage systems behind the meter have a rapidly growing market, but the value of their use needs to be better rewarded. Meanwhile deployment before the meter is still hampered by inappropriate regulations and market framework even though relevant players are well aware of potential benefits for the overall electricity supply system.
