ELSA at the International Energy Agency (IEA) Annex 67 Energy Flexible Buildings – 4th working meeting

The working meeting of Annex 67 addressing experts from 16 countries was held at Fraunhofer ISE in Freiburg, Germany between the 15th and 17th of March 2017. Annex 67 is conducting research on energy flexibility in buildings. The goal of the Annex is to increase knowledge and demonstration of energy flexibility in buildings to meet the challenges of managing increasing renewable sources. Many of the Annex’s sub-tasks are aligned with the flexibility assessment methodology developed by United Technologies Research Centre (UTRC) Ireland within the framework of ELSA.
Sarah O’Connell from UTRC Ireland attended the Annex meeting this March to present the methodology and discuss with the present experts. The feedback on the presentation was excellent. Plenty of questions regarding the methodology were raised, including the question whether the methodology could be used further. Interest in the Flexibility KPI label was particularly high and several participants expressed interest in using the label in their projects as well as in the Annex.
As a result of the meeting, parts of the ELSA Flexibility Assessment Methodology may become incorporated into the Annex, resulting in wider dissemination and possible incorporation into a future standard or regulation.
